Traditionally, Princeton and Penn have battled for dominance in Ivy League basketball, and a distinct rivalry has developed between the two programs. Obviously when Yale and Harvard meet, basketball games can become rather intense as well.
The term Ivy League is synonymous with academic excellence and social elitism, but not always with sports dominance. The Ivies do not have an end-of-season tournament to decide the winner of the conference, so regular season games take on a significantly more important role than in most other college athletic conferences.
